Robert Sudmeyer Obituary – Rockford Register Star

Robert Sudmeyer, 92, died peacefully at his home on March 22, 2022. He was born on December 25, 1929 in Isselburg, Germany, the son and 7th child of Pastor Gottlieb and Gustava Sudmeyer. Robert married Waltraud “Val” in 1955.

As a child, Robert attended boarding school and later worked on farms and attended an agricultural college in Herford, Germany. He was a self-taught businessman reaching CEO and other senior positions in the milk, beverage and brewing industries where his business took him around the world until his retirement in 1992 In 1998 Robert helped form Heartland Community Church (now Forest City Church) in Rockford where he served as a board member until 2008. Robert was a self-taught pianist and baker and continued to make his cakes twice a week until her last days. Robert has survived many challenges over his 92 years and has always remained a grateful hearted optimist.

He is predeceased by his wife, Val; and his son, Ecki. He is survived by his daughter, Ulrike; son, Ernst; small children; and great-grandchildren; and many special friends, including Carol Castrogiovani, Amanda and Danny Yuccas.

Special thanks to John Hardin, Robert’s good friend, a “computer scientist”; and his good neighbor Michelle J. and her family who brought so much joy to his heart.

Memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2022 at Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematorium – Mulford Chapel with visitation from 3:00 p.m. until time of service. To share a memory or condolences, please visit www.honquestfh.com.
