BENGALURU: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that they are “focusing” on filling vacancies in all universities for the effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP ). Pradhan said when pointed out that there are vacancies in universities – 380 out of 600 vacancies in Mysore University alone and when asked how they would implement NEP without adequate faculty in universities, he said he wanted to know how they would implement the NEP without adequate teaching staff in universities. He said recruiting professors to universities will take some time. On the lack of new programs or grants for universities for research in the past five years, he said the grant model has changed and universities will receive adequate funding.
The Minister of State for Higher Education, Dr. CN Ashwath Narayan also spoke about vacancies in universities and said that they are in parallel recruiting visiting professors to meet the shortage of staff in universities. Still, permanent faculty will be the best solution, he said. He also informed that they are trying to improve things, including getting adequate grants for universities, by adopting a “unified management system for universities and colleges” which would be the way forward. With this, they simplify things and the whole administration will be transparent, he said.
