Convocation ceremony of 13 state universities expected to be held together: Samant
PUNE The 120th convocation ceremony was held at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) on Thursday. State Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Executive Committee, Bengaluru President Prof. Bhushan Patwardhan were the main guests of the event.
“The convocation ceremonies of the 13 state universities should be held together and a date will be set for them. So, in a single day, thousands of students will be graduating across the state. I have also spoken to our state governor and the chancellors of all public universities about it,” Samant said.
SPPU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nitin Karmalkar, Registrar Praful Pawar, SPPU Deans Manohar Chaskar, Parag Kalkar, Anjali Kurne, Sanjeev Sonawane, along with Board Members and Senate Members were present for ceremony.
In April and May 2021, at least 1,18,222 students received degrees by mail from the university. While 120 students from different majors and departments received gold medals on this occasion, and diplomas were awarded to 309 doctorate holders.
Speaking about the interference of politics in universities, Prof Patwardhan, at the event, said: “Depoliticisation is needed because we have seen a lot of interference from politics in universities. It is therefore necessary to have a balance between academic and political activities.
