Summary of Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date for this posting, 7/22/2021. Classroom Time Requirement: Applicants who are currently federal employees and have held a GS grade at any time during the past 52 weeks must also meet the classroom time requirement by the closing date of this posting. For a GS-6 position, you must have served 52 weeks on the GS-5. The rank can have been in any profession, but must have been held in the federal service. An SF-50 that shows your class eligibility must be submitted with your application package. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate that you have one year of service as required. ‘ad. In this case, you must provide an additional SF-50 which clearly demonstrates one year of schooling. Note: Class time requirements also apply to former federal employees seeking reinstatement as well as current employees seeking appointment under the Veterans Employment Opportunities Act 1998 ( VEOA). To be eligible for this position, you must meet the following requirements: ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: Per 38 USC 7402 (d), no person should be in direct patient care positions unless they are fluent in written English and talked about basic. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the following lower level (GS-5) in the Federal Service which has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a GS-6 Senior Social Services Assistant. Qualifying specialist experience includes serving as a group leader in community or residential recreation or training programs; serve as a counselor at a youth summer camp; serve as an instructor in a vocational skills development training program; perform work that has demonstrated the ability to be responsible, lead and train members of a work team; serve as a group activity leader in the armed forces; serve as unit manager-monitor-supervisor for a group of dormitories in a boarding school or other residential establishment; serve as a helper or assistant to professional or specialist staff in areas such as personnel (private or government), career guidance in a professional or academic institution, social services or workforce development ; serve as a helper or assistant to professional or associate personnel engaged in work of a social service nature in the private sector, public welfare, a government program or community organizations, or in voluntary activities; serve as a helper or assistant to professional or specialized staff working with people addicted to or abusing alcohol and / or drugs. NOTE: Experience should be fully documented on your resume and should include job title, duties, month and year start and end dates AND hours worked per week.

EDUCATION: Have successfully completed at least half a year of higher education (9 semester hours above a bachelor’s degree) or coursework placement directly related to the work of the social service assistant position. This training must have been obtained at an accredited college or university. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application package. COMBINATION: An equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate education and specialized experience, as described above, which meets the total experience requirements for this grade level. Critical Thinking Customer Service Flexibility Interpersonal Skills Problem solving experience refers to both paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done in national service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (eg, professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps develop essential skills, knowledge and abilities and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly into paid employment. You will receive credit for any qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35 to 40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of the time actually spent on the appropriate activities. Applicants who wish to receive credit for such experience should clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours per week devoted to such employment.
